Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Queens Rolls Past Citadel, Pushes Campbell to the Brink in Day One of Queens Fall Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team delivered a strong start to its home doubleheader on Friday, sweeping The Citadel 3–0 in the afternoon before falling in a five-set battle to Campbell later in the finale.

The Royals opened the day with a dominant performance, hitting .402 as a team in a 25–18, 25–14, 25–16 win over the Bulldogs. Callie DeSchryver paced the attack with 11 kills on .556 hitting, adding three aces and nine digs. Emma Norris chipped in seven kills, while setters Tyler Peluso and Megan Kelly combined for 31 assists. Queens controlled the net as well, finishing with seven team blocks and holding The Citadel to just .136 hitting.

"We played a lot of our roster in this match; and anytime you hit over .400 as a team, it's a good showing," Head Coach Matt Stolz said. "I am very proud of how we dominated the whole match... they didn't lose focus and they went for it."

In the evening session, Queens pushed Campbell (6–2) to the limit but came up short in five sets (22–25, 26–24, 25–19, 18–25, 14–16). DeSchryver again led with 15 kills, while Norris tallied nine kills and five blocks. Peluso handed out 30 assists, and libero Tilley Collins anchored the defense with 17 digs. The Royals finished with 60 kills but were edged in efficiency, hitting .183 to the Camels' .248.

"I give a lot of credit to Campbell, they're a really solid team and Greg [Goral] does a great job with them every year… they have a lot of physical players. For us, of course, while it didn't work for us tonight, our mindset of going out and swinging is going to help us win championships. I am very proud of the way this team handles adversity."
