CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens volleyball wrapped up the Queens Fall Classic with a resilient 3–1 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena. The Royals rebounded from a first-set loss to claim the match by scores of 17–25, 26–24, 25–19, and 25–20.
"I don't think we were quite over the loss yesterday mentally and physically," Head Coach Matt Stolz said. "Asheville took advantage in the first set, so in the second set we switched some rosters around to get some different matchups. We talk as a team that it takes the whole 18 of us to win. We trusted ourselves and slowed [UNC] Asheville down a little. Tilley Collins was an anchor in the back row and I give a lot of credit to our middles [Lauren Stiles, Emma Norris] who led us in points."
Queens put together a solid attack with 51 kills while holding the Bulldogs to 50 kills and a .195 mark.
Emma Norris powered the offense with 11 kills on a .296 clip, adding three blocks and two digs. Elizabeth Layson and Ellis Sargent chipped in 10 and eight kills, respectively, with Layson swinging at .200 and Sargent collecting three block assists. Middle blocker Lauren Stiles was a force at the net, finishing with six kills on .357 hitting and a match-high and career-high seven blocks.
Setter duties were shared as Tyler Peluso handed out 18 assists with 10 digs, while Megan Kelly tallied 15 assists and 10 digs for a double-double. Tilley Collins was steady in the back row with 13 digs and five assists, and Callie DeSchryver contributed across the board with seven kills, 14 digs, and five blocks.
The Royals shook off a rough opening set (.129 hitting) by steadying their offense in set two. Trailing late, Queens fought off set point at 24–23 before closing on a 3–0 run capped by a service ace from Kristina Bishop to win it 26–24. Queens carried that momentum into the third frame, limiting Asheville to just .081 hitting while converting 10 kills to take it 25–19. The Royals closed the door in set four with their best offensive efficiency of the day, hitting .268 with 17 kills to secure the match 25–20.
