OXFORD, ALA. — The Queens Royals fell in the opening round of the ASUN Championship on Tuesday morning, falling to Lipscomb 11–3 in six innings. Despite producing nine hits, Queens was unable to overcome defensive struggles and a potent Bisons offense.
Lipscomb set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning and breaking things wide open with a four-run second. Queens starter Jordan Dunn battled through five innings but was tagged for eight runs (four earned) on six hits. The five Queens errors extended innings and led to unearned runs.
Offensively, Queens picked up momentum midway through the game. Senior Emma Frye led the way with a two-for-four effort at the plate, and freshman Taylor Jones chipped in a two-for-three performance with a double. Madyson Daughtry added a pair of hits and scored once, while Olivia Thornton, Lindsey DeRoeck, and Makala Strickland each contributed RBIs to spark a rally in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Royals cut into the deficit with one run in the fourth on a fielder's choice RBI by Thornton, and two more in the fifth, including a clutch two-out RBI single from DeRoeck - but Lipscomb quickly answered. The Bisons plated two in the bottom half of the fifth and then sealed the victory with a three-run sixth.
Queens reliever Abby Craver entered in the sixth but was unable to stop the surge, allowing three hits.
Lipscomb was led by center fielder Macyn Kirby, who scored three times and stole a base, and third baseman Josey Polk, who went two-for-four with two RBIs. The Bisons took advantage of six free passes and executed small-ball, collecting eight RBIs on just nine hits.
Queens finishes the year with a 16-36 record and 9-15 in the ASUN regular season.
