The Short Story:
The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped game two of the weekend series against Jacksonville University on Saturday night. Despite the loss, Charlotte native
Will Budnick blasted his second home run of the season as part of a 1-for-3 night at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Following a two-hour rain delay, the Royals bats come out hot in the bottom of the second inning.
Justin Hudson led off the frame with a double down the left field line before
Will Budnick belted a two-run homer 370-feet over the right field fence to give the Royals an early 2-0 lead.
-Jacksonville responded back in the top of the third inning with two runs. With the bases loaded and one out, Blake Delamielleur brought home a run on a ground out to second. The Dolphins would load the bases back up with a walk before the fourth walk of the inning brought home the second run of the frame.
-The visiting Dolphins grabbed their first lead of the night in the top of the fifth inning plating two runs on two hits. With a runner on first and one out, Queens turned to
Derek Westfall out of the bullpen and he was greeted by Blake Delamielleur. The right-fielder ripped an RBI single to left field, and an error by the Royals allowed him to trot around to third. Aidan Masters worked a walk to put runners on the corners and Carson Stevens dropped down a bunt to bring across the fourth run of the game for the Dolphins.
-In the top of the sixth inning, Jacksonville added five runs on one hit as the Dolphins capitalized on six free passes. Blake Delamielleur turned in the only hit in the frame with a two-run double down the left field line.
-Jacksonville erupted in the top of the seventh inning with eight runs on three hits and one Queens error. The big inning propelled the Dolphins ahead to a 17-2 lead and the game two victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Junior
Justin Hudson laced his eighth double of the season as part of a 1-for-3 night.
-
Anibal Rivera extended his hitting streak to five straight games, and his on-base streak to 10 straight with a 1-for-2 game.
-
Tyler Peters rounded out the Royals offense with a 1-for-2 night at the plate. The Apex, North Carolina native came into relief in the final inning and picked up a pair of strikeouts in his first career appearance.
-Free passes were the difference as the Royals pitching staff issued 15 walks, and five hit-by-pitches.
-Blake Delamielleure was the sparkplug for the Dolphins offense going 2-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and three runs scored.
