CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team has earned the Royals Service Award for the month of April, the athletic communications office announced this month.
Continuing to demonstrate a strong commitment to service, the team recorded 96 validated community service hours across 43 commitments, with 40 of 51 team members participating. Their efforts earned them a Team Impact Score of 57, reflecting both the breadth and depth of their community engagement.
One of the month's highlighted service events was the Day of Scholarship & Service on April 9, where the team took part in a campus-wide meal-packing initiative in partnership with Servants with a Heart. Held in Curry Arena, the event brought together the university community to assemble more than 50,000 meals for individuals facing food insecurity in Charlotte and beyond.
Additional activities during the month spanned various service categories, including educational support, environmental cleanup, and youth outreach. Across all engagements, the men's rugby team reinforced its investment in servant leadership by showing up consistently for causes that matter to the local community.
ABOUT THE ROYALS SERVICE AWARD
In the past, Queens Athletics has presented an annual Royal Service Award to individual student-athletes or teams who have gone above and beyond to help improve the Queens community. Criteria for this award include acts of community engagement that are purposeful, progressive, deliberate, intentional, and impactful to the Queens campus and the greater community.
Honoring Queens student-athletes with a monthly award in addition to the annual award will strengthen the support of the University's motto, "Not to be served, but to serve."
