CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team delivered in the clutch, walking off Jacksonville 5–4 in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader at The Stick. The victory not salvaged a split after a 6–3 loss in Game 1. The Royals also clinched a spot in the 2025 ASUN Championship Tournament; their second since their transition to Division I.
GAME ONE: Jacksonville 6, Queens 3
The series opener saw Queens strike first, taking a 2–1 lead in the fourth inning after Lauren Byrd lined a two-RBI single to right field, plating Olivia Thornton and Brooke Piper. The Royals held that edge briefly, but Jacksonville responded with five unanswered runs, including a key sixth-inning rally.
Dolphins outfielder Alison Carter delivered the decisive blow with a three-run double in the sixth, and a pair of errors allowed Jacksonville to tack on insurance. Despite a late unearned run in the seventh, the Royals were unable to close the gap.
Taylor Jones took the loss despite striking out four in 5.2 innings.
GAME TWO: Queens 5, Jacksonville 4 (9 inn.)
Queens wasted no time responding in Game 2. Olivia Thornton blasted a no-doubt three-run homer early in the first, giving the Royals an early 3–0 lead. Jacksonville chipped away with another homer of their own in the third and pushed ahead 4–3 thanks to an RBI single and a wild pitch. With their backs against the wall, the Royals delivered a storybook ending. Emma Frye won the game in extras with a clutch RBI single down the third bse line, scoring Madyson Daughtry.
