CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Despite a three-goal performance from senior
Jack Royer, the Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-6 ASUN contest against Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Dolphins outshot the Royals 42-33, including a 22-15 mark on frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville set the tone for the afternoon with three goals in the first quarter. The Dolphins found the back of the net three minutes in as Jackson Intrieri found William Krupsky for the first goal of the game. Just two minutes later, Jack Taylor set up Nicky Brown for the goal. The Dolphins rounded out their quick start with a Jackson Intrieri goal with six minutes to go. Jacksonville kept the Royals off the board in the first frame and outshot the Royals 10-5, including a 6-2 mark on goal.
The visiting Dolphins would add on two more goals from Nicky Brown and Michael Clark to extend their lead to 5-0. Queens responded with 11:00 minutes to go in the second quarter when
Ryan McDaniel found
Carter Petersen who beat the Dolphins goalkeeper to the top right corner for his 17
th goal of the season. The goal came a man down, but Jacksonville answered right back as Ethan LaMond found the back of the net giving Jacksonville a 6-1 lead heading into the halftime break.
Jacksonville came out of the break in a groove netting a pair of goals within the first five minutes. The Dolphins got a goal from Ethan LaMond to extend the visitors lead to 9-1. Queens closed the quarter strong as
Jack Royer netted back-to-back goals within 45 minutes of each other to cut the deficit to 9-3 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Three minutes into the final quarter,
Ty Schreck found the back of the net for his first career goal to cut the Royals deficit to 9-4. However, Jacksonville responded with back-to-back goals from Drew Kessenich and Daylin-John Hill to regain a commanding lead. With two minutes to go in the game, Queens netted a pair as
Deacon Adams put away his sixth goal of the season and
Jack Royer netted his third goal of the game.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Jack Royer notched his sixth hat trick of the season, and second straight as the senior has netted seven goals over the last two games. Royer increased his team-leading mark to 26 on the year.
- Carter Petersen netted his 17th goal of the season as the sophomore has scored a goal in 10 straight games.
- Sophomore Ty Schreck pocketed his first career goal in the fourth quarter. Jacob Schreck added six ground balls and two caused turnovers to his line.
- Deacon Adams put away his only shot of the day for his seventh goal of the season.
- Queens goalkeeper Nicky West made his eighth start of the season racking up 11 saves.
- Jacksonville controlled the faceoff circle 13-7 on the day as Drew Rippeon went 12-of-19 from the circle.
