Royals Fall in Heartbreaker at Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (3-9, 0-2) fell 8-7 this afternoon at Air Force (4-7, 2-1) after the Falcons put together a 4-0 run in the final 10 minutes of action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Falcons opened with a pair of goals to lead 2-0 heading into the second quarter, Queens' Jack Royer scored back-to-back goals to knot the game up, 2-2, heading into the halftime break.
 
Following a go-ahead goal from Carter Petersen at 9:35 in the third quarter, Queens increased its lead to two on a goal from Ryan McCarthy at 5:26. The Falcons answered to cut the margin back to one, and the two teams traded goals in the final two minutes of period to give the game a 5-4 score heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
 
Petersen scored a goal at 11:08 in the fourth to increase the Royals' lead back to two, 6-4, but Air Force responded with four unanswered goals to regain control of the game and lead 8-6 with 1:32 to play. Queen's Dylan Behnke scored with 18 seconds left to give the game its final score, 8-7.
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 
  • Jack Royer and Carter Petersen led the Royals with two goals each. Royer now sits one goal away from 100 in his career. He also sits one point away from 150 in his career.
  • Grant Isika was 12-18 in the circle, collecting seven ground balls.
  • In goal, Nicky West finished with 13 saves.
  • Caelan Driggs led Air Force with three goals and one assist.
  • Queens placed 12 shots on goal compared to Air Force's 21 shots on goal.
  • The Royals totaled 27 ground balls to the Falcons' 29.
