CONWAY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (5-10, 2-3) fell 18-13 at Coastal Carolina (6-9, 2-3) this afternoon on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens led 3-2 in the opening quarter before the Chants put together a 3-0 run to close the first period in front 4-3. A goal from Queens'
Anna Bednarz put a stop to what would become a 4-0 run in the second quarter to give the game a 5-4 score, but the Chants answered with three straight to build their lead out to four, 8-4. Queens outscored Coastal Carolina, 4-2 in the final 5:30 of the half to trail 10-8 at the break.
The Chants controlled the third quarter of action, increasing the margin to six, 16-10, before the final 15 minutes of regulation. In the fourth, an early goal put the home team on top by seven, but the Royals found the back of the net three consecutive times to pull back within four, 17-13. However, with their final goal of the day coming with 58 left to play, time was on Coastal Carolina's side as they held Queens' attack off in the final seconds.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Senior Jordan Tandler and junior Elise Grissett led the Royals with three goals and two assists each.
- Isabella Swanson added two goals and one assist. Lily Greenwell and Anna Bednarz each scored twice.
- In goal, Gianna Coburn got her first start of the season, tallying nine saves. Devan Maready saw time in the net, tallying her 100th career save in the game.
- Sydney McClure totaled four goals and five assists for Coastal Carolina while Gabrielle Beaudet added four goals and one assist. Alyson Mascolo recorded a hat trick.
- Queens put 21 shots on goal compared to Coastal Carolina's 28.
- The Royals led in ground balls, 11-7, but trailed in draw controls, 25-10.
