Favreau Makes History as Queens Defeats Stetson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (5-8, 2-1) faced Stetson (5-8, 0-5) this afternoon, defeating the Hatters 16-14 on the road.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a goal from the Hatters just 30 seconds into the game, Queens' Kayleen Favreau went to work, scoring back-to-back goals to take control of the lead. Stetson would tie the game twice before Favreau found the back of the cage three consecutive times, closing the period with five goals and her team in front 6-3.
 
The Hatters answered, scoring three straight goals to open the second quarter and knot things up at six. Queens responded with three more goals, two coming from Favreau, to take a 9-6 lead into the halftime break.
 
The Hatters would pull within one, 9-8, in the third quarter, but Favreau was the answer for Queens again, scoring back-to-back goals to extend the Royals' lead to three, 12-9.
 
Queens then secured the win, matching the Hatters' goal count in the fourth quarter.
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 
  • Junior attacker Kayleen Favreau scored nine goals to break Queens' single-game record. The Holly Springs native also crossed the 150 career-goal mark to move into fourth place in Queens' record books with 156 total goals. She also has 196 points in her career.
  • Elise Grissett totaled five points on three goals and two assists.
  • Lily Greenwell and Isabella Swanson added two goals each.
  • Defensively, Avery McMullin recorded three caused turnovers with four ground balls. Savannah Donahue added two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Goalie Gianna Coburn entered the game in the second quarter to collect her first win of the season after recording four saves.
  • The Hatters were led by Miya Scanlan, who totaled five goals and three assists. Katie Kornacki also scored five goals.
  • Maddie Eckert completed the game with nine saves.
  • Queens totaled 25 shots on goal compared to Stetson's 18.
  • The Royals won the battle for ground balls, 23-17, while Stetson totaled 22 draw controls to Queens' 12.
