Queens Takes on No. 6 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (2-4) faced No. 6 Clemson University (6-0, 2-0 ACC) this afternoon, falling 25-5 to the Tigers at the Clemson Lacrosse Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind by two early, Queens' Lily Greenwell and Kayleen Favreau responded with a pair of Queens goals to knot the game at 2-2 with 12:41 on the clock. However, the Tigers would go on to outscore the Royals 5-1 in the remaining minutes of the first quarter to take a 7-3 lead into the second period.
 
The Tigers scored seven unanswered goals in the second quarter, ballooning the margin to 11.  A goal from Isabella Swanson just before the half gave the game a 14-4 score at the half.
 
Queens would add one more point to the board in the second half as the Tigers scored 11 more goals to solidify the win.  
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 
  • Kayleen Favreau led the Royals with two goals.
  • Amanda Williamson and Isabella Swanson each recorded one goal and two assists.
  • Avery McMullin recorded two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Devan Maready recorded eight saves in 30 minutes. Gianna Coborn and Giuliana Portolesi each tallied two saves in 15 minutes of action.
  • Clemson was led by Regan Byrne who totaled five goals.
  • The Royals were outshot 42-10, placing seven shots on goal compared to Clemson's 37 shots on goal.
  • Clemson won 29 draw controls and edged Queens in ground balls, 19-18.
