Queens Drops Doubleheader at Jacksonville on Saturday

GAME ONE

The Short Story:
In game one of a Saturday doubleheader at John Sessions Stadium, the Queens University of Charlotte bats were held in check against the Dolphins as the Royals dropped game two of the weekend series, 3-1. The Royals scattered four hits on the game as Collin Rothermel turned in 7.0 solid innings for the Dolphins.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
-After both offenses were held scoreless through the first three frames, the Dolphins jumped on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Josh Steidl blasted a home run to right field to start the scoring. Chandler Howard laced a two-out double to left center and Carson Stevens followed it up with an RBI single to left field.
-Jacksonville tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning following a leadoff walk from Clayton Hodges. A sacrifice bunt advanced Hodges before he swiped third. Cade Hentz brought Hodges home on a sacrifice fly to left field.
-Following six scoreless frames, Queens got on the board in the top of the seventh inning. Nick Alderfer got the inning started with a triple to right field and Will Budnick followed it up with an RBI double to left center. The Dolphins would settle in and retired the next three Royals in order to halt the Royals rally.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Sophomore Jake Barbour extended his season-long hitting streak to 10 straight games with a 1-for-4 performance.
-Charlotte native Nick Alderfer recorded a 1-for-4 game with a run scored. Alderfer extended his hitting streak to five straight in game two of the series.
-Will Budnick ripped his sixth double of the season as a part of a 1-for-4 afternoon.
-Sophomore Matthew Suppa turned in a 1-for-3 game, including his first extra-base hit of the year.
-Right-hander Jack Renaud made his seventh start of the season and turned in a solid inning with two strikeouts.
-Jack Brooker followed Renaud and twirled 2.0 perfect innings allowing just one walk.
-Southpaw Joey Ruller closed the final 4.0 innings for the Royals and surrendered one run on three hits while striking out three.
-Jacksonville got an impressive start from Collin Rothermel as he improved to 4-2 on the year. Rothermel hurled 7.0 innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five.
 
GAME TWO

The Short Story:
After being tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Dolphins broke through late in the game, plating eight runs over the final three innings at the plate to complete the weekend sweep. Jacksonville capitalized on a pair of errors by the Royals to take control of the game in the later innings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Jacksonville jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff single from Jaden Bastian. The leadoff man swiped second before Jonah Shields singled to right field to score Bastian for the 1-0 lead.
-After being held scoreless through five frames, the Royals tied the game in the top of the fifth innings. Tyler Peters worked a one-out walk before Matthew Suppa delivered a two-out RBI double to left field to score Peters.
-In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Dolphins cashed in five runs on five hits, capitalizing on a Queens error. Cade Hentz reached on a throwing error and Jaden Bastian sent a double into left center putting a pair of runners in scoring position. Jonah Shields followed it up with a double through the left side to bring across both runs. Josh Steidl stepped in and sent a third straight hit to center field to plate Shields. Blake Delamielleur sent a single to left free before Chandler Howard sent a fly ball to right field to advance Steidl to third. A stolen base from Delamielleur put runners in scoring position and a walk loaded the bases. Blake Edmons ripped a two-out RBI single to right field bringing home a pair to extend the Dolphins lead to 6-1.
-Jacksonville tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Cade Hentz led off the inning with an infield single before swiping second. With two outs, Blake Delamielleur delivered an RBI single up the middle extending the Dolphins lead to 7-1.
-Queens would manufacture a run in the top of the eighth inning. Chase Fogg led off the frame with a single to left center before Anibal Rivera blasted a one-out double off the right field fence to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Jake Barbour would plate Fogg with a groundout, but the Dolphins escaped the inning without any further damage.
-Jacksonville would get the run back immediately in the bottom of the eighth as Conner Spelman sent a solo home run to left field on the first pitch of the inning. Blake Edmonds followed that up with an infield single and an infield ground out advanced him to second. Jacksonville would tack on their final run of the game on a throwing error by the Royals which brought across the second run of the inning.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Freshman Ryan Brown made his 11th appearance and third start of the season and tossed 3.0 solid innings allowing one run on three hits.
-Anibal Rivera laced his 10th extra-base hit of the season with a double late in the game.
-Senior native Nick Alderfer stayed hot at the plate, extending his hitting streak to six straight games with a 1-for-4 night.
-Tyler Peters was efficient at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
-Chase Fogg and Matthew Suppa rounded out the offense with a hit on the night. Suppa ripped his first double of the season in the series finale.
-Right-hander Landry Jurecka made his eighth appearance of the year and tossed 4.0 innings. The Greenwood, Arkansas native allowed six runs, but only three were earned across eight hits while striking out five.
-Four Dolphins recorded multi-hit games as Jacksonville totaled 13 hits in the nightcap.
