The Short Story:
Despite a season-high 7.1 innings pitched from right-hander Adrian Quezada, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped the series opener at Jacksonville on Friday night. The evening was highlighted by the starting pitchers as Quezada surrendered three runs while striking out a season-high seven Dolphins. On the other side, Jacksonville got a complete game from the Preseason ASUN Pitcher of the Year in Richard Long.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Jacksonville jumped on the visiting Royals in the bottom of the first inning as Jayden Bastian led off the game with a triple to left center. Josh Steidl would plate Bastian on a ground out to second base. With the bases clear and two outs, a one-out walk set up a Chandler Howard single to left center, putting runners on the corners. Cade Hentz flared a high fly ball into short right-center that managed to drop between three Royals to plate the second run of the inning.
-After being retired through the first four innings, the Royals cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth inning. Nick Alderfer reached on a one-out throwing error by the Dolphins second baseman. Senior Tyler Peters capitalized on the miscue with a an RBI double into the left center gap to bring Alderfer around to score.
-The Dolphins responded immediately in the fifth inning as Jayden Bastian opened the frame with a single to left field. The leadoff man swiped second and advanced to third on an errant throw. The Dolphins executed as Jonah Shields delivered a sacrifice fly to right field to extend the Jacksonville lead back to 3-1.

BY THE NUMBERS
