Queens Falls to No. 15 Lewis on the Road

ROMEOVILLE, ILL. — The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team faced a tough challenge against ranked Lewis on the road, ultimately falling in straight sets (13-25, 23-25, 20-25) at Neil Carey Arena. Despite a strong effort in the final two sets, the Royals couldn't overcome No. 15 Lewis' solid offense.

SET ONE
Lewis came out dominant, controlling the pace early and limiting Queens to just five kills with a .050 hitting percentage. The Flyers capitalized on their attack efficiency (.346) and defensive pressure to take the set 25-13.

SET TWO
Queens responded with a much stronger showing, led by Carson Strawbridge and Chance Shampine. The Royals improved their hitting to .281 and kept the set competitive, tying the score five times. However, Lewis closed the set out late, winning 25-23.

SET THREE
The Royals continued to fight, but Lewis maintained control, hitting .371 as a team. Queens stayed within reach thanks to key plays from Matthew Pilch and Nathan Vaupel, but the Flyers secured the sweep with a 25-20 final set.

ROYAL RUNDOWN

  • Carson Strawbridge led the Royals with 10 kills, hitting .304 on the night. His consistent offensive presence kept Queens competitive in sets two and three.
  • Chance Shampine finished with 8 kills and a .278 hitting percentage, providing a strong secondary attack option for Queens.
  • Wilson Buchanan registered 21 assists, orchestrating the Royals' offense.
  • Matthew Pilch led the defensive effort with nine digs while also contributing seven kills.

POSTGAME COMMENTS
"Tough night, but bottom line we have to pass a lot better than what we did tonight," head coach Jeremy Price said. "We came out and did not handle the service pressure very well. When we passed well, we did okay, when we did not, it was reflected in the scoring. I thought that Matthew Pilch was pretty solid along with Chance [Shampine] and Carson [Strawbridge]. We're going to have to pass much better to get our middles involved."
