NORTH EASTON, Mass. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team improved to 2-3 on the year after defeating Stonehill (1-3), 10-9, on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, Queens traded goals with the Skyhawks early in the second period to knot the game up twice. Stonehill scored two goals within a minute to move in front 5-3, but the Royals were able to answer with a pair of their own before the break to give the game a 5-5 score at the half.
Queens outscored the Skyhawks by one goal in the third quarter to take a 7-6 lead into the final 15 minutes of action. They held off Stonehill thanks to three consecutive goals that put them in front 10-7 with 6:31 on the clock.
The Skyhawks pulled within one point with less than two minutes to play, but the Royals'
Isabella Swanson won a pivotal draw control that prevented Stonehill from getting a chance to get on the attack and send the game into overtime.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Kayleen Favreau led the Royals with a season-high five goals and one assist.
- Jordan Tandler recorded her second hat trick of the season and recorded today's game-winning goal.
- On the defensive end, Avery McMullin tallied four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
- Isabella Swanson totaled five draw controls, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.
- Devan Maready collected her second win of the season in goal after totaling 11 saves.
- Grace Murphy led the Skyhawks with three goals.
- Nina Tremonte of Stonehill recorded 13 saves.
- Queens outshot the Skyhawks 30-22, and won the battle for ground balls 25-16.
