CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (0-1) opened its 2025 season today, falling 12-8 to East Caroline University (1-0).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Royals had a hard time getting their offense going this afternoon as they trailed the Pirates 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Queens then fought back in the second, scoring five goals to give the game a one-point margin, 6-5, at the half in favor of East Carolina.
Queens was held scoreless out of the break in the third quarter as the Pirates added four more points to the board to extend their lead to five, 10-5. A goal from East Carolina early in the fourth put them ahead 11-5 before Queens ended with a 3-1 run to give the game its final score, 12-8.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Kayleen Favreau led the Royals with four goals on the day. Elise Grissett added one goal and two assists while Lily Greenwell notched a goal and an assist.
- Defensively, Avery McMullin and Jordan Tandler led with four caused turnovers each while Mackenzie Saneman tallied three.
- Devan Maready made her freshman debut for the Royals in goal, tallying five saves.
- Kayla Wilkes led the Pirates with five goals.
- Jaime Behar of ECU took the win in goal after recording eight saves.
- East Carolina outshot the Royals 28-23, putting 17 shots on goal to Queens' 16.
- Queens won the battle for ground balls, 21-19, while the Pirates edged in draw controls, 14-9.
