Queens Edged at Home by Holy Cross

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team fell 13-12 this evening to Holy Cross (1-1) bringing their record to 0-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a goal from Jack Royer put the Royals in front early, Holy Cross scored four unanswered goals to move in front, 4-1 with 4:39 to play in the opening quarter. A pair of goals late in the period from Queens closed the gap to one, 4-3, heading into the second. The two teams traded goals over the next 15 minutes of action to give the game a 6-5 lead at the half in Holy Cross' favor.

The Royals began the third quarter with a man-up goal to tie the game at 6-6, but the Crusaders scored back-to-back to regain control, 8-6. Another pair of goals later in the period would put them ahead by three again, 10-7, before Carter Peterson and Dylan Behnke narrowed the margin to one again on two Queens goals. However, Holy Cross answered with two goals at the close of the period to take a 12-9 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

In the final period, Queens outscored the Crusaders 3-1 to pull within one with 1:46 to play. However, a pair of turnovers late in the game proved costly for the home team, as Holy Cross escaped with the win.
