CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team battled in four sets, but fell to MIVA-foe Quincy on Tuesday night inside Curry Arena. The Royals fall to 7-4 overall, and a 0-1 clip in conference play.
SET ONE
Quincy came out firing, jumping to an early 5-1 lead. The Hawks continued to apply pressure, extending their advantage to 15-7. Queens struggled to find a rhythm, but Matthew Pilch and Chance Shampine held the offense on track. Despite a late push from the Royals, the Hawks closed the set with a 25-16 victory.
SET TWO
Queens came out ready to even the match, taking an early 8-5 lead. Pilch and Shampine found their stride, combining for nine kills in the set. The Royals' defense also stepped up, with Cayden Marin and Carson Strawbridge making key digs to keep plays alive. Quincy attempted a late comeback, pulling within three at 22-19, but Queens held firm, sealing the set with a strong kill from Nathan Vaupel to even the match.
SET THREE
Both teams traded points early, with neither able to gain a clear advantage. Queens led 12-11 midway through the set, but a series of well-placed serves from Quincy swung momentum in their favor. The Hawks capitalized on a few Royals' errors and turned up their blocking game, limiting Queens to a .187 hitting percentage in the frame. Quincy used a 6-2 run to pull away late, securing a 25-20 set win.
SET FOUR
The final set remained competitive early, with the teams tied at 9-9. However, Quincy broke away with a decisive 5-1 run, forcing a Queens timeout. The Royals fought back with a pair of aces from Strawbridge, but the Hawks' offense proved too much to overcome.
