Queens Heads to West Georgia for Monday Night Action against Wolves

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team will hit the road for the final week of the regular season beginning Monday, February 24th at West Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from The Coliseum and the game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus. Following the Monday night match, the Royals will head to Florence for the regular season finale against the league leaders in North Alabama on Wednesday night. THE MATCHUP
Queens and West Georgia are set to meet for the fourth time ever, and the second time in Division 1. The former Division 2 powerhouses met twice a few years back in 2018 and 2019 before meeting again for the first time this month as Division 1 programs. Queens holds a 3-0 series advantage over the Wolves. In the series, Queens is outscoring West Georgia on average 89.7 to 75.3. Earlier this month, Queens took down West Georgia inside Curry Arena 87-68 behind a scorching hot second half as the Royals outscored the visitors 59-40 over the final 20 minutes of action. In the second half, Queens shot 74-percent from the field which is the best shooting performance in a single half in Division 1 program history. Five different Royals turned in double figures as Leo Colimerio led the charge with 19 points.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (17-10 overall, 10-4 ASUN)
  • Queens enters Monday night coming off a tough 92-78 loss against Austin Peay on Thursday night. The visiting Governors executed throughout the night, including a 58-point second-half on 59-percent shooting. Queens was held scoreless from the perimeter in the opening half for the first time this season.
  • The Royals enter the final week of the regular season 10-5 in league play marking their best record since joining the ASUN in 2023. Queens is tied with Jacksonville for the fifth spot as they are on track for their best finish in league play.
  • Since joining the ASUN in 2022, Queens has surpassed their projected finish every season as they work on their best finish in three seasons. In their first season, the Royals were picked to finish 13th and finished ninth. Last season, Queens was picked to finish 10th and turned in an eighth-place finish.
  • Thursday night was a historic night as sharpshooter Chris Ashby connected on his 100th three-pointer of the season to become the first player in Division 1 program history to drain 100 threes in a single season. Ashby has been on a tear averaging 18.3 points on 4.4 made threes over the last eight games as he ranks tied for second in the nation in threes made this season. During that eight-game span, the Houston native has scored a career-high 30 points and made the most threes in Division 1 program history with nine at Central Arkansas.
  • Graduate student Leo Colimerio is coming off his eighth 20-point performance of the season. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native scored his 1,000th career point last game against Austin Peay. Colimerio has been one of the league's top newcomers averaging 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, all of which rank top 15 in the conference.
  • The nation's leading shot blocker Malcolm Wilson is averaging 3.4 blocks per game. The Georgetown transfer has swatted the second-most shots in a single season and coming off his 11th five-block performance of the season. Wilson needs one block to reach 100 this season.
  • Kalib Mathews continues to flourish in his final season in the Queen City. The Franklinton native has appeared in the third most games in program history at 133 and is averaging 7.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. Mathews is coming off his second straight double-figure performance against Austin Peay.
  • Sophomore Bryce Cash has filled the stat sheet each night as the Charlotte native is averaging 5.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and a team-high 4.0 assists per game. The unanimous All-ASUN freshman team selection from a season ago has dropped double figures in four games this season.
  • Queens has been lockdown this season when it comes to closing games out holding a 17-1 record when leading with five minutes to go. The Royals saw their streak of 16 straight wins when leading with five minutes to go get snapped in an overtime thriller at Eastern Kentucky last weekend.
  • The Royals bench has been a key to success ranking 15th in Division 1, and leading the ASUN in scoring with 31.41 points per game. Key contributors have been Yoav Berman (7.7 PPG), Jaxon Pollard (7.9 PPG), and Nasir Mann (6.9). Across the squad, 10 different Royals are averaging at least 5.0 points per game.
  • Queens was picked to finish ninth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll. Since joining the league in 2022, the Royals have finished at least two positions higher than projected and claimed their spot in back-to-back ASUN Tournaments.

SCOUTING THE WOLVES (5-24 overall, 3-13 ASUN)
  • West Georgia enters Monday night 5-24 overall and 3-13 in ASUN play. The Wolves are coming off an 82-71 loss against Central Arkansas on Thursday.
  • The loss to the Bears put the Wolves on the outside of the ASUN Tournament standings by a game. Heading into the final week, two spots remain available with Stetson and Central Arkansas needing one victory to clinch those.
  • West Georgia is in their first Division 1 season as a member of the ASUN Conference. The former Division 2 powerhouse was very successful dating back to the late 1950's as the Wolves are 1,041-789 all-time.
  • Dave Moore is in his seventh season at the helm of the West Georgia program. Under his direction, the Wolves are 108-92 and made three NCAA Division 2 tournament appearances in the span of four seasons. In their last year of Division 2, Moore guided the program to a 27-6 record, a GSC Regular Season and Tournament title, and an appearance in the South Region Semifinals game for the second straight season.
  • West Georgia ranks last in the ASUN in scoring offense with 69.3 points per game. The Wolves are ninth in field goal percentage as they are shooting 44 percent from the field and 31 percent from behind the arc.
  • Shelton Williams-Dryden is the sparkplug for the West Georgia offense leading the team with 17.1 points per game. The junior is also grabbing 7.6 rebounds per game and swiping 1.2 steals per game.
  • Junior Kyric Davis is second on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game while also ranking 10th in the ASUN in blocks with 0.9 per game.
  • West Georgia was picked to finish last in the ASUN Preseason Poll in their first year in the league.
