Queens Falls to Austin Peay on Senior Night Despite Historic Milestones from Colimerio and Ashby

THE SHORT STORY
Despite Leo Colimerio and Chris Ashby reaching historic milestones on senior night, the Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team fell against Austin Peay by a final score of 92-78. Colimerio eclipsed 1,000 career points while Ashby buried his 100th three-pointer of the season to become the first player in Division 1 program history to reach the milestone. With the loss, the Royals finished the regular season 9-5 inside Curry Arena as they will head on the road for their final two games.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Graduate student Leo Colimerio led the Royals offensively with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native added five rebounds, four assists, and two steals to his line. Colimerio accomplished the 1,000 career scoring mark with his ninth point as he totaled the points between his time at Fresno State and Queens.
-Chris Ashby turned in 18 points, two rebounds, and an assist across 29 minutes of work. The sharpshooter made history with his fourth three-pointer becoming the first player in Division 1 program history to drain 100 three-pointers in a single season.
-Freshman Maban Jabriel turned in his second straight double-figure performance with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting. The rookie connected on 2-of-3 from deep and added two steals.
-Senior Kalib Mathews posted double figures for the 10th game this season, and second straight with 10 points. The Franklinton native added two rebounds, two assists, and a season-high three blocks.
-Jaxon Pollard came off the bench and packed the stat sheet with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals across 21 minutes of work.
-Malcolm Wilson led the Royals on the glass with seven rebounds while blocking a pair of shots. The seven-foot center added four points and two assists to his night.
-Austin Peay forced 13 turnovers on the night which the Governors turned into 20 points. In the first half, the visitor's defense forced seven turnovers and turned in nine points of the miscues.
-The Governors won the battle on the glass 36-32. Queens fell to 2-9 this season when being outrebounded by their opponent.

NOTABLE MOMENTS
-Trailing 16-15 with 9:19 remaining in the first half, the Governors sparked a quick 9-0 run to grab a nine-point lead and force the Royals into their first timeout. During that run, Queens turned the ball over twice which the Governors capitalized on with back-to-back layups.
-With the first half winding down, Queens sparked a 9-0 to close the first minutes and cut the deficit to four heading into the break. The Royals ramped up their defensive intensity forcing two Governors turnovers with 1:31 remaining in the half.
-Trailing 42-40 early in the second half, Queens ripped off a quick 9-0 run in under a minute behind back-to-back three-pointers from Chris Ashby to grab a 49-42 lead as Curry Arena came alive.
-Trailing 51-45 with 14:15 remaining in the game, the Governors sparked 14-3 run to regain a 59-54 lead heading into the under-12 media break. During that run, Austin Peay got fire connecting on 6-of-6 straight shots from the field.
-Queens returned the favor halfway through the second half with a 9-0 run within a minute to regain a 63-59 advantage with 9:26 remaining. The run was capped off by a layup from Jaxon Pollard.
-Austin Peay countered and closed the door the rest of the way with a 33-15 finish which extended their lead to the largest of the game at 17.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
-Chris Ashby reached 100 three-pointers on the season becoming the first Royals in Division 1 program history to do so. The Houston native ranks top five in the country in three-pointers this season.
-The nation's leading shot blocker Malcolm Wilson sits at 99 blocks this season as he looks to become the first player in Division 1 program history to swat 100 in a single season.
-The Royals were outscored in the second half 58-48 as the Governors shot 59 percent from the field, and 64 percent from behind the arc over the last 20 minutes of action.
-Queens went 0-for-7 from the perimeter in the first half marking the first time this season the Royals have been held scoreless from deep in a single half.
-With the loss, Queens sits tied for fifth with Jacksonville heading into the final week of the season. North Alabama and Lipscomb are tied for the league lead while Eastern Kentucky and FGCU are tied for the third spot.

NEXT UP
Queens will hit the road for their final two regular season games next week. The Royals will kick off the trip on Monday, February 24th at West Georgia at 7:00 p.m. before heading west for the regular season finale at North Alabama on Wednesday, February 26th.
