JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team battled tough on the road Saturday evening but fell to Jacksonville, 3–1 (23–25, 26–24, 25–18, 25–20), inside Swisher Gymnasium.
Queens (16–11 overall, 7–7 ASUN) opened the match strong, hitting .323 in the first set to claim a 25–23 win. The Royals used a 5–1 run late in the frame, capped by kills from Elizabeth Layson and Mia McMillen, to take the early advantage. The second set proved to be a back-and-forth battle featuring 14 ties, as both sides traded points deep into extra rallies before Jacksonville edged it out, 26–24.
Momentum shifted toward the Dolphins (20–6, 11–3 ASUN) in the third, where they hit .361 to take control of the match, before closing things out in the fourth set, 25–20.
Layson continued her impressive freshman campaign, leading the Royals with 12 kills on .276 hitting while also adding three blocks. Ellis Sargent followed closely with 11 kills at an efficient .474 clip, while Callie DeSchryver posted 11 kills and 10 digs for a double-double effort. McMillen chipped in eight kills, 12 digs, and three total blocks, while Camryn Teasley contributed a team-high six blocks at the net.
The Royals' setting duo of Megan Kelly and Tyler Peluso kept the offense in rhythm, dishing out 17 and 23 assists, respectively. Kelly also recorded two service aces and seven digs, while Peluso added five digs and three kills of her own.
As a team, Queens finished with 52 kills, 49 digs, and nine team blocks, marking the Royals' third consecutive match hitting above the .250 mark.
For Jacksonville, Claire Mrukowski powered the offense with 19 kills on .548 hitting.
