QUEENS (1-1 overall, 0-0 ASUN)
THE MATCHUP
Saturday night marks the first all-time meeting between Queens and Villanova, and the Royals first-ever showdown with a Big East program.
Â
BRIGHT LIGHTS
In just their fourth Division 1 season, Queens hasn't shied away from the big stages playing #16 Ole Miss, BYU, Utah, #16 Duke, #18 Clemson, and Nebraska over the last three seasons. The Wildcats will be the first of five non-conference outings that also feature Virginia, Wake Forest, Arkansas, and Auburn.
Â
MATCHUP NIGHTMARE
Sophomore
Yoav Berman enters his second season in Charlotte and has proven to be a tough matchup for opponents. The 6-6 guard has run point for the Royals and is averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists through the first week of the season.
Â
DOUBLE THE MANN
In the season opener against Winthrop, senior
Nasir Mann notched his second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards. In the home opener against Lynchburg, Mann nearly had another double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Â
ACC TO THE ASUN
Newcomer
Gus Larson joined the Royals this offseason after spending two seasons at Cal. In his Queens debut, the 6-10 forward showed his experience with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting while adding a pair of rebounds.
Â
CERTIFIED SHARPSHOOTER
Chris Ashby enters his final season after being named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year. The Houston, Texas native is coming off a season in which he broke the single-season school record with 115 three-pointers made. Ashby sits 55 threes away from breaking the school record set by Chris Benson in 2003.
Â
BLOCK PARTY
Despite losing the nation's leading shot blocker
Malcolm Wilson, the Royals added Georgia Southern transfer
Avantae Parker. As a freshman in Statesboro, Parker swatted 40 shots, the second most amongst first-year players and eighth most in a single season.
Â
REBOUNDING GETS YOU PAID
The Royals prioritize crashing the glass and have ranked top three in the ASUN in rebounding since joining the league. Queens ranked fourth in offensive rebounding with 11.4 last season.
Â
HIGH EXPECTATIONS
In just their fourth year in the league, Queens was picked to win the ASUN by the league's coaches, garnering six first-place votes. The Royals were picked third in the media poll behind North Alabama and Eastern Kentucky.
Â
Villanova (0-1 overall, 0-0 Big East)
HOME OPENER
Villanova will welcome Queens for their 2025-26 home opener. The Wildcats were a tough out inside Finneran Pavilion last season, going 14-3.
Â
HIGH EXPECTATIONS
Redshirt sophomore Bryce Lindsay is the player to watch for Villanova. The 2024-25 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year at James Madison poured in 22 points and grabbed five boards in the opener against BYU.
Â
HISTORIC PROGRAM
The Wildcats program has been a staple in college basketball for years, having churned out NBA veterans such as Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Kyle Lowry, Donte DiVincenzo, and many others. The three-time national champions have made 39 NCAA Tournament appearances and produced 20 All-Americans.
Â
WELL COACHED
Kevin Willard is in his first season at the helm of the Wildcats program. The former Maryland head coach has led seven teams to the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, Willard guided the Terrapins to 27 victories, a Top 25 national ranking, and a Sweet 16 appearance.
