Queens Heads to No. 2 South Carolina for Sunday Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte continues its demanding non-conference stretch on Sunday with a 2 p.m. road matchup at No. 2 South Carolina. The Royals enter at 3–2 after Thursday night's win at South Carolina State, marking one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season.

THE MATCHUPS
Prior to the NCAA era, the programs met once, with South Carolina earning a 103–55 win on January 27, 1979, when Queens was still competing as Queens College. Sunday's contest will be the Royals third SEC opponent since transitioning to Division I and the second top ten opponent the Royals have faced during that span.

To open the 2023–24 season, Queens faced its first SEC competition at the Division I level, traveling for back-to-back road matchups at No. 12 Ole Miss and No. 1 LSU.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (3–2 overall)
  • Queens is coming off a strong offensive showing at South Carolina State, where the Royals shot 45.6 percent from the floor and knocked down 10 threes in a balanced road win.
  • Brenae Jones-Grant enters the weekend averaging 13.8 points and 9.0 rebounds, shooting 66.7 percent from the field. She recorded a career high 28 points at SC State on Thursday.
  • Ana Barreto continues to lead Queens on the perimeter with 13.2 points per game, supported by 16 made threes at 36.4 percent.
  • Jermany Mapp adds 9.2 points per game and has become a reliable three-point option with 7 makes on the year. She posted 17 points at Winthrop and added 14 at SC State.
  • Breah Franks has emerged as an important depth piece, contributing 12 points and 7 rebounds at Winthrop.
  • Dayuna Colvin leads Queens in assists with 18 on the season and added six more at SC State while scoring nine points.
  • Queens is averaging 40.4 rebounds per game and continues to generate turnovers through active guard play and interior length.
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS (5-0 overall)
  • South Carolina enters Sunday unbeaten with convincing wins over Grand Canyon, Bowling Green, Clemson, Southern California, and Winthrop.
  • The Gamecocks are averaging 89.6 points while allowing just 49.2.
  • They shoot 54.5 percent from the floor and 42.0 percent from three while limiting opponents to 27.9 percent.
  • Joyce Edwards leads USC with 18.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, followed by Ta'Niya Latson at 17.0 points and Tessa Johnson at 13.8 points.
  • Madina Okot provides a double-double presence at 13.2 points and 10.6 rebounds, and Raven Johnson directs the offense at 6.8 assists per game.
