Queens Shooting Struggles Lead to 69-61 Defeat at Stetson

THE SHORT STORY
In a hard-fought women's basketball contest at the Edmunds Center, the Queens Royals fell 69-61 to the Stetson Hatters on Saturday afternoon. Despite trailing for most of the game, the Royals mounted a comeback in the third quarter but could not overcome the deficit in the final frame. In the loss, Queens drops to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in league play, while the Hatters move to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the ASUN.

BY THE NUMBERS
- In her 70th career game and 60th start, Jordyn Weaver led the Royals with her 13th career double-double, posting 16 points and 11 rebounds. Weaver also added four blocks, two steals, and lead all players with 38 minutes of action.
- Dayuna Colvin provided a spark off the bench, scoring 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting. She added three assists, three steals, and was perfect at the free-throw line (4-for-4).
- Kaitlyn Adams was impactful in just 21 minutes, scoring 10 points while adding four rebounds and a season high five steals.
- Ana Barreto contributed two of the team's three 3pt attempts. Jermany Mapp added the other three point basket, as the Royals finished 3-16 from beyond the arc.
 
NOTABLE MOMENTS
Queens struggled early, falling behind 17-8 after the first quarter as Stetson capitalized on efficient shooting and turnovers. The Royals chipped away in the second quarter with a 6-0 run, reducing a double-digit deficit to five by halftime (30-25). Dayuna Colvin and Kaitlyn Adams played pivotal roles off the bench, combining for 11 second-quarter points.

The Royals continued their momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Stetson 20-18. Queens briefly grabbed their first lead of the game, thanks to a 5-0 run sparked by key baskets from Jordyn Weaver and Colvin. Stetson responded with a 9-0 run of their own to reclaim control heading into the fourth quarter with a slim 48-45 advantage.

Queens offense struggled in the final frame, shooting just 2-for-18 from the field.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Queens struggled significantly from beyond the arc against Stetson, shooting just 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from three-point range.
- The Royals shot a season low .254 percent from the floor, matching the season opener against Wake Forest.
- In a game that featured 49 personal fouls between the two teams, Queens went 26-of-31from the charity stripe, a season-high of .839 percent.
- Queens committed 19 turnovers, leading to 27 points for Stetson. The Royals forced 18 turnovers but couldn't capitalize as effectively, scoring just 18 points off them.
- The Royals outscored Stetson's bench 31-16.

The Royals will return to Curry Arena on Wednesday, January 8th, to take on Bellarmine. This will mark the third meeting between the two teams in their series history, with Queens looking to avenge two losses from last season.
