Queens Sweeps Lees-McRae for Seventh Win on the Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team secured a dominant 3-0 sweep over Lees-McRae on Friday night inside the Levine Center on Friday, Jan. 31. The Royals move to 7-3 on the season, and a 6-0 record at home.

SET ONE
The opening set saw a competitive start, with both teams exchanging points early. Queens managed to pull away midway through the set, capitalizing on Lees-McRae attack errors. Casey Maas led the way offensively, while Reed Shuey anchored the net defense with multiple blocks. The Royals maintained their advantage to close out the set, 25-20.

SET TWO
Lees-McRae started strong in the second set, taking an early lead thanks to strong serving from Austin Beaird. However, Queens responded with kills from Maas and Sev Allton to even the pace. Setter Wilson Buchanan facilitated an efficient offense with 28 total assists on the night. The Royals surged ahead late in the set and sealed the 25-21 victory.

SET THREE
In the final set, Lees-McRae fought hard, keeping the score tight with 12 tie scores throughout. Lleyton Starke contributed key kills for the Bobcats, but Queens' blocking at the net proved to be the difference-maker. Maas and Allton continued their strong performances, while Shuey and Kaden Saurer secured crucial points down the stretch. The Royals closed out the set, 25-21, to complete the sweep.

"It was good to get a lot of freshman and younger guys playing tonight," Head Coach Jeremy Price said. "Wilson Buchanan did a nice job in his first start and was able to get the job done and help us to a solid sideout percentage. Rylan Colman was excellent in the middle, and it was great to see Casey Maas put together a complete match. It was a tough week, we survived, and we're excited to open up conference play on Tuesday."
