Royals Honor Seniors in Final Home Meet Against Hokies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Queens University of Charlotte swimming program honored their seniors in their last home meet of the season against Virginia Tech on Friday, Jan. 3. You can find full meet results here.

The final scores were 157-100 in favor of Virginia Tech for the women, and 178-79 for the Hokie men. Despite the team losses, the Royals delivered several standout performances.

COMMENTS FROM DIRECTOR OF SWIMMING JEFF DUGDALE
"It was great hosting Sergio Lopez and his Hokies today," Dugdale said. "We definitely saw why they [Virginia Tech] are a top-20 program. I could not be happier with how we rose to the occasion and put ourselves in some races achieving both season and lifetime best performances for many. This was a great way to end our holiday training. Thank you to all of our parents, friends and significant others for filling the stands and supporting our Royals!"

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
On the women's side, Queens kicked off the meet with a strong second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, where the team of Maren Patterson, Annika Huber, Madeline Foster, and Ryley Heck clocked a time of 1:40.55. 

In the 200 free, Madeline Foster and Sabina Kupcova secured second and third places with times of 1:48.82 and 1:49.64, respectively. Maren Patterson continued with a second-place finish in the 100 back (54.52). Annika Huber delivered strong performances in the breaststroke events, taking second in both the 100 breast (1:02.73) and the 200 breast (2:15.92). 

Abigail Zboran excelled in the butterfly events, winning the 200 fly in 2:02.08 and adding a second-place finish in the 500 free (4:56.36). Meanwhile, Ryley Heck showcased a solid performance by winning the 50 free with a time of 22.77.

For the men, the 200 medley relay team of Andreas Marz, Noah Beladi, Conner Wang, and Nien Levy earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:27.17. 

In the 200 free relay, the squad of Nien Levy, Daniel Meszaro, Stamatis Paleocrassas, and Conner Wang came out on top with a time of 1:19.91.

TJ Spokas finished third in the 200 free (1:38.56), while Caden Fritz secured second in the 100 back (47.76). In the 100 breast, Noah Beladi and Declan Gleason placed third and fourth with times of 53.78 and 53.89, respectively.

In the freestyle sprints, Nien Levy earned second place in the 50 free (19.62), and Daniel Meszaros took fourth in the 100 free (43.44), with Levy close behind in fifth (43.77).

UP NEXT
Next, the Royals will have their first-ever diving-only meet against divers from VMI and UNC Asheville on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Jewish Community Center in Asheville, N.C.
