CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens University of Charlotte Head Women's Soccer Coach Shannon Neely Noel has announced the addition of Austin Rios to the coaching staff. Rios brings years of collegiate soccer coaching experience, spending the last four years with stops at Adams State, Western Oregon and Oregon State University.
"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Austin Rios to the Women's Soccer staff," said Head Coach Shannon Neely Noel. "From the beginning of the interview process it was clear he was a coach with great energy, experience and integrity. He is the right fit at the right time, we can't wait for him to get started as our preseason kicks off. Austin will have a great influence on our players and staff on the field and off as our program keeps reaching new heights."
While at Western Oregon, Rios coached goalkeepers and defenders for the Wolves. He assisted in the team becoming nationally ranked, finishing third in the GNAC and earning a conference playoff berth in 2023. Rios had an active role in developing the 20222 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, Hannah Rispler.
Before coaching at WOU, Rios spent two seasons coaching at Adams State after his playing career for the Grizzlies. He was a member of the 2017 team which still holds the best winning percentage in program history.
"I'm excited and deeply grateful for the opportunity to join the women's soccer program here at Queens University," said Rios. "This is not only a strong team in a competitive conference, but also a place full of wonderful individuals that I believe I can learn and grow with. I look forward to working with this exceptional staff and cannot wait to jump right into working with the team. I would like to thank Coach Noel and the administration for this amazing opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started."
