CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dana Mechisi has stepped down as Queens University of Charlotte head women's rugby coach, the University announced.
"I would like to thank Dana for leading our women's program the past two seasons," Queens Director of Athletics Cherie Swarthout stated. "We wish her well on her new journey."
Mechisi was promoted to head coach in the Fall of 2022 after serving as an assistant coach for three seasons, taking the reins after former head women's rugby coach Katie Wurst.
In her first full season in the role, Mechisi led the Royals to an undefeated season after winning her first career match as head coach against Guilford College. She then led the team to a NIRA Divisional Championship, the first in program history. Seven of her athletes were named to 2022-23 All-NIRA team, and
Avery Kemora was named the NIRA Championship Most Valuable Player.
The following season, she saw three players receive All-NIRA mentions.
Jada Medellin and
Jay Stone were named to the second team All-NIRA, while
Lea Preuss was named to the honorable mention team.
