ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Queens University of Charlotte
women's rugby team fell to Army over the weekend by score of 75-0 as the Black Knights produced a commanding display of rugby, taking control of the game from the opening whistle and never letting go.
With physicality at the breakdown and relentless pressure in both attack and defense, Army quickly established dominance. Their forward pack carried with power, setting a strong platform that allowed the backs to play with freedom and pace. Queens showed determination and spirit, but struggled to gain territory in the early phases of the game. Towards the end of the first half, Queens linked multiple phases together and carved out some territory and possession, shifting the momentum of the play.
By halftime, Army had built a comfortable lead through a mix of well-worked tries and clinical kicking. The second half continued in the same fashion, with Army exploiting gaps and finishing chances with precision. Queens launched a mini bomb squad half way through the second half, with those players making an immediate impact, again changing the momentum of the game. Despite some bright moments from Queens, including stretches of resilient defending and several dangerous attacking moves, Army's overall intensity proved too much.
Queens Head Women's Rugby Coach, Danny Harlow is pleased with the teams progress saying, "We are a very young team, compared to the other teams in the league. We're making great progress and building on our performances every week. With 18 new players in this years class (3 transfers and 15 freshman), its going to take time to get everyone on the same page. This is a great group of players and I am excited to see what they'll achieve over the next few years!"
