The Short Story:Â Despite multi-hit performances from
Andrew McDermott and
Jake Barbour, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped game two of the weekend series at Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Lipscomb jumped on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Following consecutive hit-by-pitches, Austin Kelly sent an RBI single into center field to bring home the first run of the game.
-The Bisons extended their lead with a four-run second inning. _ Hetherington blasted a two-run homer to start the scoring. Lipscomb worked a double and advanced to third on a failed pick-off attempt before a hit-by-pitch put runners on the corners. The Bisons plated a run in exchange for an out before an RBI single up the middle rounded out the scoring.
-Queens answered in the top of the third inning when
Andrew McDermott blasted his first home run of the season over the right field fence.
-For the third straight inning, Lipscomb plated a run as the Bisons responded with two runs on three hits. A solo home run was followed by an RBI double down the left-field line to bring home two runs for a 7-1 lead.
-Queens responded in the top of the fifth inning with two runs on four hits.
Mason Kelly and
Andrew McDermott opened the frame with consecutive singles before a flyout advanced Kelly to third.
Connor Manco stepped in and delivered an RBI single to first base before
Tyler Cotto followed it up with an RBI single up the middle to bring the score to 7-3.
-The Bisons would extend their lead to 10-3 in the bottom of the eighth with three runs on two hits and one Queens error to take game two.
BY THE NUMBERS
-
Andrew McDermott led the Royals offense with a 2-for-4 day, including his first home run of the season.
-Freshman
Jake Barbour notched his seventh multi-hit performance of the season with a 2-for-4 day.
-
Connor Manco,
Tyler Cotto, and
Mason Kelly rounded out the offense with a hit each. Manco and Cotto also drove in a run while Kelly came around to score once.
-
Dillon Lewis extended his season-high on-base streak to 15 straight games with a walk. The mark is the second longest in D1 program history behind
Riley Cheek's 20 consecutive games last season.
-
Johnny Joseph tossed 3.0 solid scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one hit while striking out one.
-Freshman
Jack Brooker hurled 1.1 scoreless innings picking up a strikeout.
-The Royals offense struggled on the day with runners in scoring position going 2-for-10 at the plate.
