Cotto Perfect at the Plate as Royals Fall at Austin Peay

FIRST PITCH

Score: App State 12 | Queens 2

Records: Austin Peay (15-7 overall, 4-1 Sun Belt) | Queens (4-19 overall, 0-5 ASUN)

Location: Clarksville, Tenn. (Raymond C. Hand Park)

The Short Story: Despite two extra-base hits from Tyler Cotto, and Carson Magill's efficient early performance the Royals fell 12-2 to Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Royals got the scoring started in the second inning, with a Tyler Cotto solo blast over the left field fence. Pitcher Carson Magill was efficient early for the Royals, as he began the game with four consecutive shutout innings.

-In the fifth inning, the Governors took advantage of mistakes by the Royals, as a single, hit batter, created a two-out threat for the Governors. Then a fielding error pushed across one for Austin Peay, before a single scored another, as they took a 2-1 lead into the sixth.

-The Royals would respond in the sixth inning, as Cotto ripped a two-out double to score Dillon Lewis to knot the game at two.

-Austin Peay's offense caught fire in the sixth inning, as they exploded for six runs, on five hits, and two Royals errors. Back-to-back doubles scored the first run of the inning for the Governors. A single, and a two-RBI double scored three more runs. Then, a two-RBI blast capped off the scoring for the hosts.

-The Royals pitching staff struggled with free passes in the seventh, as three consecutive walks loaded the bases with nobody out. A sacrifice fly pushed across one for the hosts. A two-run double, gave the Governors a commanding 11-2 lead heading into the eighth inning.

-The Governors capped off the victory with a three-run blast in eighth.

BY THE NUMBERS

-Tyler Cotto led the Royals offensive attack. He was a perfect 2-for-2 on the day, with a walk. The Austin Peay transfer blasted his seventh home run of the year, and his second of the week.

-Tyler Peters, Mason Kelly and Dillon Lewis also reached base for the Royals.

-Freshman Carson Magill was incredibly efficient out of the gate for the Royals. He sat down 9 of his first eleven batters, to keep the Royals slim 1-0 lead early.

-The Royals defensive gaffes caught up to them, as they committed three, while the Governors defense was efficient with zero recorded errors.

-The Royals offense will look to bounce back tomorrow, as they recorded only four hits on the evening and two walks on the evening.
