The Short Story: The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team erupted for a Division 1 program record 22 runs in the series finale at Austin Peay on Sunday afternoon. The victory marked the Royals first ASUN win of the season, and the first league win for head coach Jake Hendrick.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Queens jumped on the Governors quick with a four-run top of the first inning. Dillon Lewis opened the game with a single to left field. Tyler Cotto worked a one-out walk before Jake Barbour dropped a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. Matthew Corlew worked a two-out walk to load the bases before Tyler Peters worked a walk to plate the first run. Junior Will Budnick followed it up with a three-run double on the first pitch to jolt the Royals ahead 4-0.
-Austin Peay responded in the bottom of the first inning with a sacrifice fly. Logan Schmitt came on in relief after Derek Westfall had to exit due to injury. The junior right-hander worked around a walk and a hit by pitch to escape the jam.
-After holding the Royals scoreless in the second, the Governors capitalized on two Queens errors with four runs to take a 5-4 lead.
-Both offenses exchanged a pair of runs in the third inning as the high scoring affair continued. Tyler Peters drove in a run on a ground out before Mason Kelly placed an RBI single down the third base line. The Governors answered in the bottom half with a pair of home runs to maintain a 7-6 lead.
-The top of the fourth inning saw the Royals plate the most runs in a single inning in Division 1 program history. Queens scored 11 runs on seven hits and one Governors error. In the frame, Evan Zapp, Jake Barbour, Tyler Peters, and Will Budnick knocked a hit. Tyler Cotto and Matthew Corlew belted a home run each. Keanu Spenser, Mason Kelly, Evan Zapp, Jake Barbour, and Will Budnick worked walks to round out the base runners.
-Austin Peay chipped away at the deficit with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
-The visiting Royals continued to apply the pressure with three runs on two hits in the sixth inning. Tyler Peters sent an RBI single through the right side before the Governors exchanged a run for a double play. With a runner on third, Keanu Spenser laced a double to right center for his first extra-base hit of the season.
-The Governors added a run in the sixth and eighth innings, but the Royals answered in the top of the ninth with two runs. Will Budnick led off the inning with a solo shot down the right field line before Keanu Spenser smoked his first home run as a Royal to center field.

BY THE NUMBERS
-The 22 runs from the Royals offense marked a season-high and Division 1 program record. The 11-run fourth inning was the most runs scored in a single inning in Division 1 program history.
-While managing to blast four home runs as a team, the Royals were also patient at the plate drawing a season-high 14 walks.
-Tyler Peters and Will Budnick led the offense with three hits each. The duo combined to drive in nine runs, including five from Budnick which tied for sixth most in a single game in program history.
-Dillon Lewis, Jake Barbour, Keanu Spenser, and Mason Kelly added two hits each. The multi-hit performance was Lewis's 13th of the year as he leads the team with a .358 average. The multi-hit performance from Spenser was the first of his career as a Royal, including his first home run of the season.
-Evan Zapp, Tyler Cotto, and Matthew Corlew rounded out the offense with a hit. Cotto blasted a grand slam marking the third straight game in which the senior homered. Corlew followed the grand slam up with a two-run moonshot to left center.
-Junior Logan Schmitt picked up his first win as a Royal after entering the game in the first following an injury. The Iowa native twirled 3.0 innings and allowed four earned runs while striking out three Governors.
-Freshman Jack Renaud earned his first save after closing the final 3.0 innings. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits.
-Queens got the lead-off batter on in six innings to apply pressure early. The Royals capitalized with runners in scoring position by hitting .471 on the day.
