Royals Dominant Over Wildcats and Pioneers in Two-Match Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team had an efficient two-match day inside the Levine Center on Saturday, swiping two three-set wins against Fort Valley State and Tusculum.

THE SHORT STORY
Queens found no trouble taking down non-conference foes Fort Valley State and Tusculum today, with their closest set being 25-22 in the second set against Tusculum.

MATCH ONE - Queens vs. Fort Valley State

  • The Royals finished the first set with 13 kills on 23 attempts and six errors, giving them their highest attack percentage in a set on the day.
  • Chance Shampine led the Royals with 11 kills, tabbing his fourth match in a row scoring double-digit kills.
  • Daniel Leitao made his presence known in the matchup as the setter added 30 assists.
  • Stirling Sims, Nathan Vaupel, and Chance Shampine each added two blocks apiece in the match.
  • The Royals had a great match in serving as the squad pieced together six aces compared to zero from the Wildcats.
  • For FVSU, Isaiah Fedd led his squad with 13 kills while Raheem Thomas led with four blocks.

MATCH TWO - Queens vs. Tusculum

  • The old IVA foes met again in their first matchup since Queens moved to the MIVA.
  • The Royals jumped on the Pioneers quickly in the first set. Finalizing the first-set victory was a 5-0 run led by Brian Camacho on the serve to take it to 25-10.
  • In the first frame, Queens tallied 10 kills on 14 attempts and zero errors, amounting to an impressive .714 hitting percentage.
  • In the second, Tusculum kicked things into gear forcing 15 tie scores and six lead changes. With the help of a kill from Jaden Bramhall, the Pioneers came within two points (23-21) to Queens, but two finalizing kills from Albert Warzocha would seal the deal and put the Royals up 2 sets to zero.
  • In the third, scoring spurts led by Colby Landry paced his Tusculum squad within reach of the Royals, but multiple attack errors pieced with blocks from Shaphar Grant and Warzocha catapulted their squad to the 25-21 final victory.
  • In series history, the Royals now lead 8-0 all-time, with the Pioneers only winning five sets in that time span.

REMARKS FROM HEAD COACH JEREMY PRICE
"Today was a good day, especially getting it done in six sets," Price said. "We played two teams who have a lot of talent. They pushed us and gave us an opportunity to play a variety of different lineups. I was pleased with how the roster responded. I really liked how Brian Camacho was able to come off the bench and get five consecutive points to finish off the first set … Sev Allton came out and served well and got some blocks, and I appreciated how Matteo Falleri was able to come off the bench and lock in. I cannot say enough about our libero play today, all three played and they all did an outstanding job passing."

UP NEXT
Up next, the Royals jump back into MIVA play to play Lewis in a two-match series starting on Thursday, March 21 for a 6:00 PM first serve.
