CHARLOTTE, NC--- The Queens University of Charlotte women's rugby team opened their 7s season Thursday with the Rex vs. Royals Intrasquad Scrimmage.
What Happened?
Game 1
In the first half of game one, the Royals got on the board first as
Jay Stone scored the first try and conversion of the match to make the lead 7-0.
Maggie Dineen later scored a try, followed by a Ceci Calhoun conversion to tie the game 7-7 going into the half.
Royals pulled away in the second half as
Anouk Vijverberg got the try with a
Jay Stone conversion to make the score 14-7.
Jay Stone got the final score for the Royals as she got the try to win 19-7.
Game 2
In game two, the Royals started with a try from
Annalise Richardson to make the score 5-0. Team Rex would respond however with a try and conversion from
Maddie Hughes to give them the 7-5 lead going into halftime.
Jay Stone would get the lead back in the Royals' hands as she converted a try, followed by a
Lea Preuss conversion to make the score 12-7. Stone and Preuss would seal the deal for the Royals as they scored their second try and conversion of the half to win it for the Royals 22-7.
Game 3
Clare Czap got the first points for the Royals as she scored the try and conversion to make the score 7-0. Rex would then make the game close as
Abby Beaver scored the try to make the score 7-5 just before the half.
The Royals would then take the second half by storm as
Jay Stone would score another try to expand the lead 12-5. To complete the sweep,
Anouk Vijverberg and
Lea Preuss would then get the try and conversion to make the score 19-5.
What's Next?
The Royals will look to host Lander University on Sunday, March 17th for a St. Patrick's Day match up at noon.
