LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In their third Atlantic Sun showdown of the 2024 season, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team picked up another draw with a 0-0 clean sheet at Bellarmine on Saturday night. The shutout marked the Royals third of the season, and 12
th in Division 1 as Queens improved to 3-5-2 overall and 1-0-2 in league play.
TURNING POINT
Despite being outshot 17-12 on the night, the Royals generated opportunities with seven corner kicks. One of Queens' best scoring chances came in the 62
nd minute when the Royals threatened with the ball in the box. Graduate student
Caio Brandao settled the ball with a pass to
Leontios Zacharia's boot at the top of the box. The rookie settled it before ripping a shot which struck the crossbar before being cleared by the Knights backline. Queens would generate more opportunities later in the second half, but the Knights defense held strong to keep the Royals off the board.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Rookie goalkeeper Matheus Rhormens improved to 2-1-2 this season picking up his third clean sheet. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native faced 17 shots between the pipes and picked up three saves. Rhormens leads the league in save percentage and sits second in shutouts.
- Veteran midfielder Caio Brandao turned in a game-high four shots across 90 minutes of work. The multi-shot performance marked the fourth of the season for Brandao as he leads the team in shots.
- Freshman Leontios Zacharia recorded his first multi-shot performance with two shots in the second half.
- Samuel Idinge, Cole Pumpian, Roberto Alvarez, Caleb Woodard, Michel Feldman, and Rodrigo Canovas added a shot for the Royals.
- Nine Royals, including Matheus Rhormens, Samuel Idinge, Cole Pumpian, Caio Brandao, Roberto Alvarez, Leontios Zacharia, Caleb Woodard, Cade Bender, and Rodrigo Canovas turned in 90-minute performances.
- After being outshot 8-3 in the first half, the Royals increased their pressure and split the shot total 9-9 in the second half.
- The draw improved the Royals record against the Knights to 0-1-2 as one goal has been the deciding factor across all three matches.

Queens will return to the pitch next Saturday, October 12
th when the Royals welcome Stetson for an ASUN battle. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on ESPN Plus.
