Caio Brandao Strikes Team-Leading Fourth Goal in Saturday Showdown with Stetson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After taking a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute of action on Saturday night, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team surrendered a pair of goals within the next eight minutes as the visiting Hatters stormed from behind to capture the 2-1 victory. The fiery Atlantic Sun matchup between two of the league's top teams saw 11 cards issued.

TURNING POINT
Following 70 minutes of scoreless action, the offenses ramped up down the backstretch netting three goals within eight minutes. The Royals jumped on the board first as Michel Feldman dropped a pass to Leontios Zacharia who one touched a pass to Caio Brandao in the box. The veteran booted it down the middle of the net beating the Hatters keeper to the left side. Despite gaining the late lead, the Hatters rebounded in the 75th minute as Afonso Conde netted the equalizer. Just four minutes later, Xavi Csato and Andres Mata set up Maurice Hauser for the game-winner in the right corner of the net.

KEY STATS & NOTES
  • Graduate student Caio Brandao netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Brandao finished the night with three shots marking his fifth multi-shot performance of the season.
  • Making his 11th start of the season, Michel Feldman ripped a pair of shots, including one on goal. The junior dished out his second assist of the season in 72 minutes of action.
  • Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi recorded two shots in 83 minutes of action. The multi-shot night was his fifth of the season.
  • Roberto Alvarez, Cole Pumpian, and Jamahl Brown added a shot on the evening. Alvarez placed his lone shot on target in the second half.
  • Five Royals, including Matheus Rhormens, Samuel Idinge, Cole Pumpian, Caio Brandao, and Leontios Zacharia turned in 90-minute performances.
  • Stetson outshot Queens 20-10 on the night despite the Royals setting the tone in the first half with a 6-5 margin.
  • The Hatters generated seven corner kick opportunities on the night, including six in the second half.
  • With the win, the Hatters remained atop the league standings at 2-0-1 while the Royals dropped to 1-1-2, but kept their place in the top four of the league rankings.

Queens will begin a fierce three-game road stand on Tuesday, October 15th when the Royals travel to face No. 12 Clemson at 7:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ACCNX. Queens will return to ASUN play next Saturday, October 19th at Jacksonville University before returning to North Carolina for a showdown with No. 16 Duke.
