Queens Drops Senior Showdown with North Florida 2-0 on Saturday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following an hour-and-a-half rain delay, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team and the North Florida Ospreys took the pitch in a critical Atlantic Sun showdown at Dickson Field. The visiting Ospreys netted a pair of second half goals to earn the 2-0 victory. Queens fell to 3-9-3 overall and 1-2-2 in league play as they head into the final weekend looking to clinch their second straight ASUN Tournament appearance.

SCORING SUMMARY
66' – NORTH FLORIDA – Alex Barnett (Assist Pedro Amancio)
76' – NORTH FLORIDA – Angus Taylor (Assist Joaquin Acuna and David Perez)

TURNING POINT
Following a scoreless first half, the match flipped in the 66th minute when the Ospreys capitalized on a set piece in the corner. Pedro Amancio sent a corner kick into the box finding the head of Alex Barnett who buried the first goal of the match. Just 10 minutes later, North Florida went on the attack as David Perez found Joaquin Acuna in the box. The senior ripped a shot on frame, but Queens goalkeeper Matheus Rhormens made a fantastic diving stop. The rebound bounced directly to Angus Taylor who put away the insurance goal.

KEY STATS & NOTES
  • Graduate student Caio Brandao ripped three shots, including two on frame in a 90-minute performance.
  • In his 30th career start as a Royal, veteran Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi posted a pair of shots for seventh multi-shot performance of the season.
  • Roberto Alvarez, Felipe Marty, and Milan Miric rounded out the offense with a shot. Senior Felipe Marty placed his only shot on net.
  • Despite North Florida winning the shooting battle 21-8, the Queens backline did a great job limiting the scoring opportunities as the Ospreys only placed six on goal.
  • Prior to the match, the program recognized their six seniors, including Samuel Idinge, Charlie Knust, Felipe Marty, Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi, Caio Brandao, and Milan Miric. Knust earned his first career start in the blue and gold and turned in a quality 35 minutes of work on the backline.
  • Queens will head into the final weekend of ASUN play sitting fifth overall as the top six squads will advance to the tournament. Queens will be looking to beat FGCU, a program that secured their spot in the tournament already.

Queens will hit the road for the final week of the season beginning Tuesday night at VMI. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on ESPN Plus. The Royals will return to league play next Saturday, November 2nd at FGCU for their regular season finale.
