Royals Take On Hokies After Holiday Break

MEET RESULTS

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA. —
The Queens University of Charlotte men's and women's swimming and diving teams jumped head-first into tough competition after the holiday break against Virginia Tech on Friday, Jan. 5.

The Royals kicked off the meet with a third place showing in the Women's 400 Yard Medley Relay event from Maren Patterson, Danielle Melilli, Abigail Zboran, and Ryley Heck with a time of 3:42.48.

The women's squad added in another third place finish from Sophia Lange in the Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle with a 10:07.91 time.

The Hokies found success in the next three events before Patterson snagged the bronze in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 56.11. In the men's event, Andreas Marz took home the second place finish with a final time of 48.89.

It would be Libby Livesay to find the first win of the day for the Royals. Livesay found herself at the top of the pack in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, swimming a 1:03.77 mark. Sarah Brown followed right behind with a time of 1:04.03. Jake Browne swiped a third place finish in the men's event with a time of 55.64.

The Royals later found success in the 200 Yard Butterfly events as Zboran swam a 2:03.89 (second place) and Yannick Plasil swam a 1:45.61 (first place).

Speed swimmers Matej Dusa and Melilli put up top marks in the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle events. Dusa took the first place finish with a 19.47 while Melilli took home a time of 22.88 in the 50, while both finished with the silver in the 100 (Dusa, 42.75; Melilli, 50.02).

Other notable finishes for the Royals include a Haley Ross second place finish in the Women's 200 Yard Backstroke (2:01.28) and a second place Marz finish in the Women's 200 Yard Backstroke (1:46.07).

Sarah Brown secured a solid season-best 2:17.10 time in the Women's 200 Yard Breaststroke, good for first place in the meet. Maddie Foster would also find a win against the Hokies in the 100 Yard Butterfly — snagging a time of 53.99.

In the 400 Yard IM events, the Royals secured two career-best times — Jablcnik Frantisek completed with time of 3:54.78 while Zboran swiped a time of 4:23.90.

Up next, the Royals are back in action for their Senior Day meet against Georgia Tech and Gardner-Webb inside the Levine Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 13 at 11 AM.
