CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Queens University of Charlotte women's rugby team junior varsity team had an electric home opener Saturday as they beat the North Carolina All-Stars 18-12.
 
WHAT HAPPENED?
The game had a slow start in the beginning of the first half until Maddie Hughes made a penalty kick to put Queens in the lead 3-0. The All-Stars would then answer with a try to give them the 5-3 lead. Maddie Hughes got the Royals back in front with another penalty kick to make the score 6-5 to end the first half. In the second half, the All-Stars got the lead back as they scored the first try and conversion of the day to give the Sharks the 12-6 lead. Maddie Hughes would later score again with a try and conversion to give Queens a one-point lead in the middle of the second half. Nicole Rojas scored the final try for the Royals win 18-12.

 "Our first home match of the season was an awesome experience for our team, the Carolina All-Stars, and our rugby fans! We debuted our new uniforms while installing new player combinations on the field, in preparation for our upcoming D1 matches. These non-conference matches are integral for creating and utilizing the full depth of our roster. Looking into the future, we'll continue to fine-tune our fundamentals as we prepare to go to Harvard next weekend."
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Royals will travel to Cambridge Mass. for their first ever match against Harvard University on September 16th at 10:00 AM.
