Royals Swipe Dominant Wins Over Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Queens men's and women's swimming & diving teams made a dominating statement in their second meet of the season, posting a 158-136 victory for the women while the men tacked a 171-117 victory over the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday, Sep. 30.

Of the 32 overall events in the meet, the Royals (1-1, 1-1) snagged snagged 21 victories. Queens did not compete in the diving events.

"Both the men and women were resilient today," Head Coach Jeff Dugdale said. "I was proud that they were able to recalibrate after the first break and go on an event win streak. Once again, we had a healthy mixture of freshman and veterans stepping up to help the team."

Rookie Queens swimmers found success in the pool as Maddie Foster, Bianca Wettel, and Abigail Zboran each found individual wins for the women while Frantisek Jablcnik snagged an individual victory for the men. Foster finished the women's 200-yard freestyle event with a winning time of 1:54.58, Wettel came out with a triumphant 2:06.99 time in the women's 200-yard backstroke, and Zboran snagged the women's 100-yard butterfly, the 200 -yard IM, and the 200-yard butterfly with times of 2:06.08, 57.02 and 2:05.97, respectively. For Jablcnik, the freshman finished with a winning time of 1:53.00 in the men's 200-yard IM. Freshmen Libby Livesay, Nien Levy, and Jablcnik also found victories as part of the final relays (4x100-yard freestyle).

In the 4x50-yard medley relays to kickstart the meet, the women and the men were victorious — the women's squad of Wettel, Annika Huber, Foster, and Danielle Melilli pieced together a time of 1:44.95 while the men's team of Andreas Marz, Balacs Berecz, Jablcnik and Matej Dusa swam a 1:31.13.

Later on in the meet, Dusa notably swam a 20.48 in the men's 50-yard freestyle event — earning himself the fastest event time in the ASUN so far this season. In the women's 50-yard freestyle event, Danielle Melilli also found herself a ASUN top-ranking win with a finish of 23.86.

To add to his impressive start to the season, Dusa picked up another individual win against the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1) in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.94 — which currently sits as the second-fastest event swim time in the ASUN.

Melilli also earned a spot atop the new conference for the Royals, earning the fastest recorded time in the 100 freestyle event this season so far in the ASUN with a time of 52:12.

Other individual wins for the Royals included the men's 100-yard backstroke (Andreas Marz, 50.83), the men's 200-yard backstroke (Andreas Marz, 1:50.18), women's 100-yard breaststroke (Annika Huber, 1:05.83), women's 200-yard breaststroke (Annika Huber, 2:22.38), men's 200-yard breaststroke (Balazs Berecz, 2:04.06), and men's 100-yard butterfly (Conner Wang, 50.51).
