Last Second Goal Sends Bellarmine Past Queens on Saturday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team dropped a stunning league battle on Saturday night as Bellarmine netted the game-winner with four seconds remaining.

Turning Point
Following 89 minutes of action-packed scoreless soccer, the visiting Knights found the back of the net with four seconds remaining to leave the Queen City victorious. Austin Yowell sent a ball from the left side of the field toward the far post and found Brock Pope who placed a perfect header in front of the goal. Chris Shust made a sliding attempt knocking the game-winner into the top of the net for his second goal of the year.
 
Key Stats & Notes
  • The Royals turned in their third straight match with double-digit shots as they finished the evening with 12 attempts and five on target. Oskar Wolf, Caio Brandao, Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi, Jamahl Brown, Giuliano Lucca, Cole Pumpian, and Tyler Tin finished the evening with a shot.
  • Junior Gaston Moise finished the night with a career-high three shots, including one on goal.
  • Mario Goic turned in his seventh multi-shot performance of the season with two shots and one on goal.
  • Freshman Evan Morris dropped to 0-1-2 in goal this season after picking up four saves while facing 18 shots. Despite the record, the rookie has been sensational only allowing two goals while bolstering an .895 save percentage on the year.
  • The Queens backline consisting of Samuel Idinge, Oskar Wolf, and Pantelis Panteli turned in a 90-minute performance. Wolf returned to the lineup after missing the last game.
  • Bellarmine generated more scoring opportunities on the night outshooting the Royals 18-12 while winning the corners total 7-2.
 
Up Next
Queens will head back on the road next week beginning on Tuesday, October 3rd at the College of Charleston. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Flo Sports. Following the midweek non-conference affair, the Royals will travel to the Sunshine State for a battle at Stetson on Saturday, October 7th at 7:00 p.m.
