Royals Open Season at Saint Francis

LORETTO, Pa. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team (0-1) traveled to face Saint Francis (1-0) in their 2023 season opener this afternoon, falling 6-0 to the Red Flash.

Turning Point
After a goal at the midway point of the opening quarter resulted in the Royals trailing 1-0, the Red Flash scored late in the quarter to take a 2-0 lead into the second. With the momentum, they would score once more in the half to take a 3-0 advantage into the second half of play where they kept the Royals scoreless through the end of play.

  • Sydney Smith and Ava Moser notched one shot on goal each this afternoon.
  • In goal, freshman, Grace Meinke completed the game with 12 saves in her first collegiate start.
  • Consu De Castro led the Red Flash with seven shots on goal, scoring twice.
