ATLANTA, GA. – Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer veteran goalkeeper
Erica Turner has been named the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week, as officially announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. The recognition comes after the graduate student's remarkable performance in week one of the 2023 season.
"It's always exciting to be recognized by the conference, and very well deserved for Erica's performance in our opening weekend," said head coach
Shannon Neely Noel. "We consider shutouts a team-earned success, and Erica's performance, managing the game and coming up in big moments when it demanded her absolutely impacted our team's ability to take a win and a tie in these first two matches!"
For the week, Turner guided the Royals to back-to-back shutouts to kickstart the second season of Division 1. The graduate student recorded 15 total saves after facing 29 shots helping the Royals to a 1-0-1 week.
In the season opener against Wofford, Turner faced 11 shots and reeled in seven saves. The strong performance between the pipes eventually propelled the Royals to a 49th-minute goal off the boot of
Sophia Muetterties for the difference maker. In the weekend cap at Western Carolina, the Dublin, Ireland native faced 18 shots and pulled down eight saves. In the 72
nd minute of action, the Catamounts attack got past the Royals backline and ripped a beautiful shot to the top left corner of the net, but Turner made a sensational diving stop to keep the home team off the board.
Turner becomes the first Royal in program history to receive ASUN weekly honors. Joining Turner on the weekly honors is the Player of the Week, Seem Annika from Stetson and the Defensive Player of the Week, Siassi Zara from North Florida.

th at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN Plus before challenging Troy University on Sunday, August 27
