2023 QUEENS ATHLETICS AWARDS: ROYALS SERVICE AWARD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics continues to roll out the end of the year awards following the completion of the 2022-23 season. Thursday afternoon, Queens announced the Royals Service Award. 
 
The department awards will be released twice a week during the month of June and July as Queens will announce winners of the Sportsmanship Award, Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Male and Female Comeback Athletes of the Year, and Male and Female Senior Student-Athletes of the Year. In addition to the individual awards, the department will also recognize performance-based accomplishments for teams and individuals including Men's and Women's Team Comeback Win of the Year, Best Male and Female Individual and Team Championship Performance, and Men's and Women's Upset of the Year.

Men's Team Winner - Men's Swimming


Men's swimming set the bar for what it means to be involved in the community; not only at Queens but across the nation. Head coach Jeff Dugdale has always kept a heavy emphasis community involvement and while both team's were among the nation's best, the men's team finished atop the nation in the total number of hours of community service with an outstanding 1,246 service hours. 

Men's Individual Winner - Zac Baker, Men's Triathlon

Zac Baker played an extremely heavy role in Queens' community efforts this past season. He wins the award for the second-consecutive season after logging over 613 hours. He attended an astounding 178 events, largely assisting various triathlon organizations in his free time. 

Women's Team Winner - Women's Rugby

Of the thousands of hours Queens' women's programs put forth in community service hours, women's rugby finished above the rest, having logged 999 hours in Helper Helper this past season. Head coach Dana Meschisi, who was named head coach prior to the start of the 2022-23 season, made it a point to ensure her team were successful on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. 

Women's Individual Winner - Avery Marquis, Cheer

Avery Marquis logged 530 hours of community service, as she too earns the award for the second-consecutive year. Of the many events she attended includes various Greek life events, elementary tutoring, and various holiday events.
