Men's and Women's Senior Student Athletes of the Year
Men's Winner - Kenny Dye, Men's Basketball
Kenny Dye's final season as a Royal was one filled with many accomplishments and memorable moments, as he helped Queens transition seamlessly into Division I. He kicked off his memorable senior campaign with a game-winning bucket against Marshall to kick off Queens' DI campaign. Later in the season, he posted a career performance against Jacksonville State, netting 34 points on 15-16 shooting, breaking the Royals' scoring record in the process. After leading the team to a strong regular-season performance, the Royals clinched a berth in the ASUN tournament and went on to defeat Florida Gulf Coast in the opening round, before being narrowly defeated by Kennesaw State, who'd go on to win the tournament, by one point. After the conclusion of the season, Dye landed second-team All Conference honors, as well as NABC First Team All-District Honors.
Women's Winner - Melanie Welsing, Women's Track and Field
This past season, Melanie won 3 individual events at the ASUN championships including the 100 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles, and the heptathlon. She set school records in all 3 events and would have qualified for NCAA's in all 3 events and the High Jump had Queens been championship eligible. She was named ASUN Women's Athlete of the Meet for her efforts in Jacksonville after scoring 30 team points. Welsing was also the 60 Hurdles champion indoors and pentathlon runner up setting school records in both events.
