Queens Tops Owls for First ASUN Postseason Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (10-7) knocked off fifth-seeded Kennesaw State (4-13) this afternoon to advance to the ASUN Women's Lacrosse Championship Semifinals. The win is the first NCAA Division I postseason win for the program and the team is the first at Queens to reach any ASUN Championship semifinal round.      
 
How It Happened
Trailing 4-3 heading into the second quarter, Queens would take control of the game scoring four unanswered goals to lead 7-4 at the half.
 
The Royals then put three more balls in the back of the net to start off the third quarter, building their lead to six, 10-4.
 
Leading 12-6 at the start of the fourth, Queens held the Owls to just two additional goals while scoring a pair of their own to collect the history-making victory.

Key Stats & Notes
  • Kayleen Favreau totaled six points on five goals and one assist while Shannon Donovan followed with four points on a hat trick and one assist. Stephanie Joyce and Elise Grissett chipped in with two goals each.
  • Donovan recorded her 100th career ground ball in the win.
  • Sharn Muffett earned the win in the net for Queens after totaling eight saves.
  • Julia Weiss totaled 13 saves for the Owls in the loss.
  • Three Owls scored two goals each in the game.
  • Queens outshot Kennesaw State, 33-23, putting 27 shots on goal compared to the Owls' 16 shots on goal.
  • The battle in the circle was even with both teams collecting 13 draw controls while Queens tallied 18 ground balls to Kennesaw State's 12.
  • The Royals totaled 14 caused turnovers as a team with five Royals notching two each. Defender Grace Guglielmo had seven draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Queens will face top-seeded Liberty in the semifinals tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Royals fell to the Flames during the regular season by a score of 14-5 at home. Shannon Kingston led the Royals with two goals while Donovan added two points with one goal and one assist. Guglielmo tallied five caused turnovers, four ground balls, and two draw controls.
