JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (10-8) faced top-seeded Liberty University (12-6) this afternoon in the ASUN Women's Lacrosse Championship Semifinals, falling 21-8 to the Flames. The loss brings the Royals' inaugural Division I season to a close.
How It Happened
After falling behind early, Queens would tie the game up at 2-2 on back-to-back goals from
Elise Grissett and
Kayleen Favreau. The Flames then put three balls in the back of the net before Favreau scored her second of the day to give the game a 5-3 score at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was all Liberty as they scored seven unanswered goals to build a 12-3 lead at the half.
The Flames extended their scoring run to 10 goals adding three in the third before Queens was able to put three straight in the back of the cage to close the margin to nine, 15-6, with 3:25 left to play.
A six-goal run would follow for the Flames as they increased their lead to 15, 21-6. Queens'
Jordan Tandler and
Jillian Gironda then scored the final two goals of the day to give the game its final score.
