The Short Story:Â The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped the weekend series opener at Bellarmine University on Friday night by a final score of 14-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Queens would get the scoring started in the top of the second inning with four runs on four hits and a Knights error. All four runs were plated with two outs. Zach Weston reached on a two-out error by the Knights shortstop before JD Coleman singled to right field sending Weston to third. Christian Maggio would lace an RBI single to right center before Nick Melton cleared the bases with a two-run triple. Tyler Peters would follow it up with an RBI single up the middle.
-Bellarmine would come in during the bottom of the second and get a run back with a timely two-out RBI single to right center.
-The Knights would erupt in the third inning with four runs on four hits to grab a 5-4 lead.
-Bellarmine added a run in the top of the fifth on two hits and a Royals error. Gabe Bratetic singled through the left side for an RBI and a 6-4 lead.
-The Knights would tack on eight runs on six hits and a Royals error in the final two stanzas to capture the game-one victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
-JJ Sousa turned in a 2-for-4 performance as the junior has recorded multi-hit games in nine of the last 11 games.
-Senior Christian Maggio extended his hitting streak to four straight games with a 2-for-3 afternoon. The multi-hit performance was Maggio's 12th of the season.
-Tyler Peters, Nick Brassington, JD Coleman, and Nick Melton added a hit on the day while Peters and Melton combined to drive in three runs. Brassington extended his hitting streak to four straight games with a single in the left field.
-The Knights scattered 17 hits on the day marking the fifth game in the last six outings which a Royals opponent rattled off 13 or more hits.
