Jeffery Maidhof Hurls Complete Game Shutout as Royals Even Series at Bellarmine

The Short Story: Senior Jeffery Maidhof hurled his second complete game of the season leading the Royals to a game-two victory over the Bellarmine Knights on Saturday afternoon.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

-Queens jumped on the Knights early as Riley Cheek belted a solo home run in the top of the first inning.

-The Royals would add another run in the top of the fifth behind three hits. Sam Hunter ripped a one-out double to left field before Tyler Peters singled to center field putting runners on the corners. Riley Cheek would bring home a run on a fielder's choice before Christian Maggio singled to right field.

-Queens added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth behind two hits. JJ Sousa opened the inning with a single before Nick Brassington roped an RBI triple to left center. Andrew McDermott would follow it up with a squeeze bunt to bring Brassington home extending the Royals lead to 4-0.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Senior Jeffery Maidhof was phenomenal on the mound for the Royals tossing his second complete game of the season. The Fort Mill native needed 84 pitches and surrendered six hits as the Knights didn't have any baserunners advance past second base.

-Six Royals turned in a hit on the day, including Tyler Peters, Riley Cheek, Christian Maggio, JJ Sousa, Nick Brassington, JD Coleman, and Sam Hunter.

-Rookie Sam Hunter led the offense with a 2-for-4 afternoon, including a double.

-Christian Maggio, JJ Sousa, and Nick Brassington all extended their hitting streaks to five straight games.

-The complete game marked the third 9-inning complete game from a Royals pitcher in program history. Across the ASUN, Maidhof is tied for second this season in complete games.

-The shutout was the first of the season for the Royals, and the first since February 26, 2022.

-Queens scattered eight hits on the day, including three extra-base hits.

The Royals and Knights will meet in the weekend rubber match tomorrow, May 14th at 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the BU Sports Network.
