Queens Battles Liberty at Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (7-5, 2-1) picked up its first ASUN Conference loss this afternoon falling 14-5 to Liberty University (7-5, 3-0) at home.  
 
How It Happened
The Flames attacked early in today's game, building a 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Queens would see its first goal of the day at 9:24 in the second when Shannon Kingston found the back of the net on a feed from Shannon Donovan. Donovan would then follow with a goal of her own to pull the Royals within four, 6-2. However, Liberty would close the half with a two-goal run to take an 8-2 lead into the half.
 
The Royals were held scoreless in the second half until late in the fourth quarter when they were able to put together a three-goal run to close the game.

Key Stats & Notes
  • Kingston led the Royals with two goals while Donovan added two points with one goal and one assist.
  • Grace Guglielmo tallied five caused turnovers, four ground balls, and two draw controls. Additionally, she recorded her 100th career-caused turnover at Queens in the game.
  • Sharn Muffett took the loss in goal after totaling five saves in 30 minutes. Caroline Kraemer totaled one save in 30 minutes of action in the cage.
  • Cami Merkel led the Flames with four goals while Mackenzie Lehman added five points on three goals and two assists. Olivia Glaze also recorded a hat trick. 
  • Taylor Gallarello earned the win in goal for Liberty after totaling two saves in 30 minutes. Mara Tellers recorded three saves in 30 minutes of play.
  • Queens was outshot 31-14 by Liberty who put 20 shots on goal compared to the Royals' 10 shots on goal.  
  • Though the Royals lost the battle in the circle winning just five draw controls to Liberty's 18, the battle for ground balls was much closer with the Flames edging Queens, 26-23.
